""No one is exempt from the call to find common ground." -Barack Obama"About RobotKen
I believe in constructive political discourse and compromise to solve our nation's greatest problems.
I believe in responsible government activism if it improves the quality of life, and at the same time I believe in the free-market principles this country is built upon. I believe we can keep guns out of the hands of criminals and gang members while respecting the 2nd amendment. I believe we should respect the separation of church and state while at the same time not infringing upon the rights of citizens to practice their religion openly and publicly. I believe no one is "pro-abortion", and if we work together we can reduce unwanted pregnancies by promoting both contraception and moral values against random promiscuity. Conservatives can respectfully disagree with the President without calling him a "Muslim," and Liberals can respectfully disagree with former President Bush without calling him "stupid."
I believe if we all take a step back from the punditry and sensationalists, whether it's Rush Limbaugh or Ed Shultz; if we stop to realize that the 24 hour news cycle can be more polarizing than productive and pragmatic, then maybe we can get things done.
Yes, I am a Democrat. Yes, I believe the Liberal philosophy has lead to undeniable progress, but I also believe Conservative values have a place in our laws. I think if we all stop to realize that sometimes (not always), Liberals have a good point, but sometimes (not always) conservative values trump that point- once we all apply empathy to our political discourse, then maybe Washington can overcome it's perpetual gridlock.
