"Is Political Correctness leading the US closer to collapse?"
Original Opinion by Ronws23 (16)
First off, I'm not a racist, but I do believe in the saying "Whatever it takes to get the job done". Which is why I support racially profiling Muslims.
No, I don't hate Muslims, some of my closest friends are Muslims, I've visited Mecca before on vacation, and was interested. But I'm still a Christian and always will be.
But when we are in a war against Muslims, we have to take measures to ensure victory.
A argument anti- racially profiling people say is that not just Muslims are terrorists. There are Jewish terrorists and Christian terrorists, and I acknowledge that. But we are at a war with MUSLIM extremists, not Jewish, not Christian, but Muslim. And what Obama is doing to give equal rights and trying to protect Muslims from profiling is stupid.
I'm a supporter of Bush, and what I liked about him is that even with all the trash he received from the Media, he still did what he thought was right, and accomplished it brilliantly. After 9/11, he crammed down on national security and his regulations have protected the country since.
But with Obama, he cares too much what people think of him. I noticed immediately that he loosened up the CIA and FBI and i trying to stop racially profiling, and a good example is Fort Hood. It was the commander of the Base's fault for not noticing, but Obama contributed by relaxing the regulations.
So if Fort Hood could get by, and Obama is still persistent on stopping racially profiling, what will happen? Another attack on our soil? More dead?
I'd like to hear your side of the argument, thank you.

"Loaded Question Much?" by JamesBufkin (25)
To start you have a clearly biased view of America's position; I mean of course that you believe that there is some sort of collapse on the way. Far from it. I don't know where you got this notion of collapse but when I look at America and the state it's in I see a recovering nation, one that will hopefully lead the world into a new era.
My optimism aside, I do believe that there can be too much political correctness in society. I don't entirely support racial profiling either though. I have actually written a paper about it for one of my classes so my views are more fully developed on that front, but back to being PC. Just because you have friends of a specific race doesn't mean you aren't racist. On the other side, stereotyping and not being PC doesn't make you a racist.
People in our society are too often afraid that they won't be liked because of their opinions and therefore hide them to avoid exclusion. This is where political correctness comes from: people agreed that making generalizations about people based on their race or other factors was bad, so they came up with other names. African American instead of Black, Homosexual instead of Gay, or Hispanic instead of Mexican (I understand that it applies to more than just Mexicans). These new titles made people feel less cruel and it became a trend. My analysis may be incorrect, but this political correctness has only led to a more repressed society not one on the verge of collapse.
In closing, being PC isn't bad, it's just a way to feel less bad about yourself if you're insecure with your own racial prejudices.
"Media." by Vultren (85)
The media is the reason we have this political correctness. Fox News seemed to be the only news source that told the people the Font Hood killer was MUSLIM. I'm not saying we should put them into internment camps like in WWII, but we need to keep a better eye out for people who want to kill innocent Americans and are open about it.
Of course not all of them want to kill us, but that religion of people believe we are the infidel and we should be killed.
It's gone way too far and we need to open our eyes and not be too worried if we offend someone. If they don't like it, they should go try and find some other country who will listen to them (if that exists).
"Vultren" by Ronws23 (16)
I totally agree with your statement. The world isn't a candyland, if this Country wants to survive, we have to hurt peoples feelings.
As for JamesBufkin My point is that if we let political correctness take over, we are doomed. Vultren said it well, and another example Is Affirmative Action. For some reason, it's legal for one race to be superior to another because of History. I understand the purpose, to make up for wrongs that Whites have done to minorities in the past, but it's getting out of hand. We are not Slave Owners, we don't need anyone telling us to stop being racist, there is no need for it and it's promoting counter racism

Ronws23, although your argument against Affirmative Action is mostly correct I believe it's irrelevant in this case. Although affirmative action is placed on several different institutions in order to hire people of different background and ethnicities but hiring policies are not solely based on that. Hiring based on merit is still the center of hiring policies. So, I wouldn't worry on that situation. Political correctness is just the product of a more liberalized society and an increasing thoughtfulness and consideration of other people's beliefs. And that's a completely welcome change in America. Obviously not to the point where it becomes ridiculous. But then there's the other issue, at what point do we draw the line between reasonable and ridiculous? Y'all's thoughts?
"Completely Loaded Question" by BassemElghetany (12)
I am Muslim, but I try to make it not affect my views.
I do not support racial profiling, because it places too much emphasis. Sure, there are Muslim terrorists out there, just like Christian, Jewish and almost any other religious terrorists.
Yet profiling places too much emphasis on one type of danger, leaving the others available to attack.
Political correctness is just a way to speak euphemisms so that people won't think badly of you.
"Bassem" by renton723 (9)
There are many kinds of terrorists out there in the world, but the point is we've only been attacked by Muslim terrorists. That's not to say that only Muslims should be detained and searched, it's just more probable and logical. Let's say the U.S. gives up its policy of profiling and other security measures. How do you suggest we protect the nation?
"Renton" by BassemElghetany (12)
I never said to remove the other security measures, only the profiling. If we increase the total security measures while removing the profiling, we should be fine. To watch the Muslim people at the airports would be fine, but only if others were being watched as well. It would be pointless to watch a few at the expense of many.

Christian terrorist? Can you give me a source where a christian strapped a bomb to themselves and blew up innocent women and childred? Just ONE source would be okay.
"PC over-rated" by WIz766 (11)
I believe we should have PC to a small degree. But on the other hand we cant always be changing to fit others needs or wants. I am not a racist, some people call me one, in reality(cant remember who said it but this is not candy land) not everyone can be sheltered from the world. Some people just wont give a s**t about anything and call people what ever they want.
Every person has the in America has the chance to shine. I grew up being called names everyday of my school career through elementary middle and high school there was "PC" but no one listened to it, people in this world just need to buck up and do something about it if the feel insecure. I hated life because of these names but I knew it would not stop. Each person has to take the steps to get over their insecurity. WE can all do it.
I am all for racial profiling if it mean keeping America safe.
