"BP Oil Spill- Regulations needed?"

Original Opinion by Vultren (85)

Is it time the government regulates the oil companies more? It's obvious that these spills are big problems for the environment and cause many problems for people who live in the areas these spills occur.

However, when it comes to government, should they become more involved and take a stance and regulate what happens? Or is the government too big and need to stay out of these problems? Tell me what you think.

Disasters like these oil spills are horrible. I would never want to see one like this again. When it comes to government regulations, there can not be too many regulators so that companies can not operate. I strongly believe that. What I do believe also is that we can not let companies with so much power, such as the oil companies, to do what they want without safety and regulations.

I say do it, but not to the point where they can't operate. Keep capitalism alive!

when government imposes strict regulations on everything, it becomes tyrannical. but when no regulations are placed we risk falling under the tyranny of massively powerful corporations. capitalism should definitely be kept alive, but it should be harnessed so that its power benefits the many instead of the few.
